BREAKING NEWS: Judge sets high bail for murder suspects

Bail has been set for $2 million for the alleged killer of a Medford man after the suspect made his first court appearance Thursday morning in Steele County.

Judge Karen Duncan set Cyrus Noel Trevino’s bail at $2 million without conditions and $1.5 million with conditions. He is the 24-year-old Owatonna man accused of killing Richard Jurgensen, 22, June 26 along a gravel road in Merton Township about four miles northeast of Owatonna. Trevino has been charged with second-degree murder.

Trevino’s alleged accomplice, Gerald William Blevins, 36, has been charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder. He appeared in a separate court hearing and Judge Duncan set his bail at $1 million without conditions and $750,000 with conditions.

Because of safety concerns, the hearings were held in a small courtroom inside the Steele County Detention Center in Owatonna with extra deputies present. About 35 people attended the hearing in a standing room only observation area outside of the courtroom.

Trevino’s next court date will be July 18 while Blevins is scheduled to appear July 14.

The Times will have additional coverage on this murder in next week’s print edition.
