Try a candlelight hike Saturday at Creek Park
Feeling stuck inside becaise of the recurring snow storms?
Dodge Center is offering a chance to get out and enjoy the winter weather this Saturday with a Candlelight Hike at Creek Park.
Activities will get under way at 6 p.m. and continue until 8 p.m.
This will be the third candlelight hike, said Liz Johnson, the city’s community development specialist.
The first hike, she said, was held in the winter of 2018. For that hike, she said, 100 people indicated they were interested in attending and 100 came. There were 100 people who attended the fall 2018 hike.
The number of people saying they are interested in the winter 2018 hike has increased, Johnson said, and by Monday, 865 people had indicated on the city’s Facebook page they were interested in the event.
The hike will take place on the half-mile trail in the park which will be lighted by luminaries. It takes most people under 10 minutes to complete one trip around the trail, she said, but many people take the route multiple times.
There will also be a bonfire and while no food is provided walkers are invited to bring their own as many individuals and families stay to talk around the bonfire
after completing the hike. Some, she said, even stay to the end and then help pick up the luminaries.
While Johnson said she doesn’t expect all 800-plus who expressed an interest will actually attend, she did encourage people to carpool as parking space is limited.
She also reminded those attending to wear boots and dress app for the weather.
