BREAKING NEWS UPDATE: 8-year-old killed in crash by Claremont
An 8-year-old girl was killed in a 2-vehicle crash by Claremont Friday morning.
The State Patrol has not released the girl’s name. However, the driver of the vehicle has been identified as Rachel Marie Harberts, 43, of Dodge Center. She is a teacher at Blooming Prairie Elementary School. The patrol said Harberts received life-threatening injuries in the crash. Also receiving life-threatening injuries was Harberts’ 12-year-old son, Jaxon Devere Harberts. Air ambulances flew both of them to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.
The girl was pronounced dead at the scene. They were presumably en route to Blooming Prairie where Harberts teaches first grade.
According to the patrol, Harberts was driving a 2010 Mercury Milan when she was attempting to make a left hand turn off U.S. Highway 14 by Claremont. Her vehicle was rear-ended by a 2008 Hummer H3. The driver of the Hummer, Tanner Ronald Kruckeberg, 24, of Dodge Center, had no apparent injuries.
The State Patrol said all persons involved in the crash were wearing their seat belts and no alcohol is suspected.
Assisting the State Patrol at the scene were Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, Dodge Center Fire, Dodge Center Ambulance, Gold Cross Ambulance, Mayo One and North Air Care.
