Owatonna will have a new hybrid-entertainment hub opening in the fall when Matt Olson’s Fore & Pour golf simulator bar opens its doors.

The business will have two to three golf simulator stalls as well as a bar environment serving canned drinks and assorted comfort foods.

“I wanted to start something that I had been thinking about for a couple of years now. During COVID-19 the golf world kind of exploded when everything else was shutting down. I love the game and noticed an absence of opportunity to play during the winter. So, I made the decision to go off on my own and bring that opportunity to town,” said Olson.

Simulators have increased in popularity over the last decade as they allow businesses, athletes and even casual golfers the opportunity to continue developing their game without having to bear the elements.

After seeing yet another long winter in Steele County interrupt the beginning of the golf season, Olson knew it was time to make a change.

“We’re looking forward to giving the community the chance to continue playing all through the winter season when the courses aren’t open. The nice thing about simulators is that people can play on multiple different courses and each round is different. It offers the real feel of golf without having to actually be on the course.”

Fore & Pour is also designed to cater to more than just seasoned golfers.

The business hopes to be as much of a tool for sharpening skills as it is for those looking to just have a fun day out with friends and family.

However, those looking for some competition will also be in luck.

“We’re hoping to offer some leagues down the line whether it be certain days where we host tournaments or just a weekly thing where golfers come in for a round and log their scores.”

Fore & Pour will open up close to downtown Owatonna at 605 N Cedar Ave. with a goal of seeing the doors open officially sometime in October or November.

The business has plans to hire a small staff for the first season, and is currently looking for prospective employees.

Prices have not been cemented yet, but according to Olson there will be both the opportunity for walk-in players as well as memberships.
