Breaking News: Blooming Prairie cancels Fourth of July celebration

Blooming Prairie has decided to cancel its Fourth of July celebration for this summer.

On Wednesday night, the Fourth of July committee as well as the Chamber’s Executive committee decided to forgo the city’s annual Fourth Festival due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Members of both committees participated via ZOOM.

Attending the Facebook ZOOM meeting were: Becky Noble, Dan Peach, Miranda Carey, Keith Holman, Jackie Vorlicek, Linda Klemmensen, Darrell Hansen, Curt Explan, Karen Fouarge, Sarah Esplan, Sandy Jones, Kristi Fiebiger, Pam Ingvalson, Lisa Noble and Bonnie Coughlin.

Blooming Prairie has been host to one of the largest Fourth of July celebrations in southern Minnesota for decades. The cancellation of the celebration including the parade marks only the second time in 45 years that the parade has been cancelled. The parade was cancelled two years ago because of a driving rainstorm.

“For everyone’s own safety, Blooming Prairie’s Fourth of July Celebration is cancelled this year,” the Chamber posted on its website. “We will not be having a parade, we will not be having activities in the park.”

The Chamber still plans to host the city fireworks this year. However, the exact details of how that will work are still being decided.

“This was not an easy decision to make,” the Chamber said. “Blooming Prairie’s Fourth of July Celebration will be back in 2021.”
